For a book without costumes to differentiate the cast, Lark succeeds at giving everyone a unique look. Alchemy later changes the composition of Renee Montoya's necklace, causing it to permanently scar her chest with the dual venus symbol. It's up to them to keep the world's most dangerous criminals off the street, and also to clean up the mess left behind by Batman's one-man war on crime.

Gotham Central Omnibus by Ed Brubaker | Goodreads

Morrison is highly regarded, as is their Batman run, and this omnibus, should be considered essential reading for any Batman fan. I will say this about the artwork - even though the colors and whatnot matched the tone of the book, at times, it was hard to tell some of the characters apart. I have not really followed the Batman comic or its many offshoots in a while, so it was fascinating to learn that he was no longer on the force but still had his 'contacts' to keep him informed on what was going on in the GCPD as well as what was going on on the streets of Gotham. Renee Montoya became one of the major characters in 52, a series dealing with the aftermath of Infinite Crisis. He still breaks the law by beating his opponents nearly senseless at times, by breaking their bones, by intimidating them (up to a point), and by committing crimes of assault-and-battery against them. The characters here, especially Reneé Montoya, the gay detective who is the spine of the series, feel incredibly alive, because they are given the time and space to develop, and the dramatic impact of this choice is heightened because of it. It does not matter how many people one of Batman's villains kills, or any criminal in Gotham (or in comics, in general) - he will never suffer any punishment for his actions and there will never be any kind of justice. It was a sad (depressing) story and a bit of a disturbing story, as a man wanted to be 'in the big show' with all of the super heroes and super villains, so he abused the trust of boys how trusted him by kidnapping boys who resembled Robin, dressed them up as Robin, and then murdered two of them before he surrendered himself and the third one was rescued. I recently purchased it after much excitement, I enjoyed Ed Braubakers run on Captain America and my favourite hero and universe being Batman / Gotham so was super excited to get ahold of it.

Freeze's gun would have on a person, the day-to-day bureaucracy behind who will turn the switch on the Bat-Signal, or seeing how the mad chaos caused by The Joker could put the fear of god in a whole town. GOTHAM CENTAL only ran for 40 issues, which is partly why I'm so passionate about it - it really feels like it was cut short in its prime. Great mysteries, awful tragedies, a Batman that actually feels like an urban legend, and interesting interactions with the Rogues Gallery. Even though I'd read the entire run before, Renee's tale jabbed me right in the feelings quite a few times. Seed of Destruction, Wake the Devil, and "Wolves of St August," "The Chained Coffin," and "Almost Colossus," from The Chained Coffin and The Right Hand of Doom.Rare and early work such as It Girl and the Atomics, Dead Air, The Everyman, Crash Metro and the Star Squad as well as the limited series Dark Horse Extra: Madman. Link to the Previews/Lunar site for the book (that would be the sites Diamond and Lunar run) – I provide this primarily as a check on the info on my site AND in the event that a release date for a book changes and I haven’t gotten to correcting it yet, you have a link directly to a source. Featuring the main character Dream, alongside his family, the Endless, this original and intriguing collection of comics is something different, and a choice for readers who aren't fans of traditional superheroes. The following is compromised of my four review for Books 1,2,3,4 of the series, making up the omnibus.

Gotham Central Omnibus 2022 Edition (Hardback) - Waterstones

It was about the 'normal' men and women who try to do their jobs and live their lives in a crazy, whacked-out world where you never know which cops are corrupt and which super villains will 'pop around the corner' and start killing people. Though the detectives usually find themselves outmatched by the powers and abilities of the foes they face, they are shown throughout finding strength through their bonds as a team, which is portrayed as a family every bit as tight and dedicated as the one that Batman built around himself. Our MAIN characters, Marcus Driver, Renee Montoya, Crispus Allen, Romy Chandler, and Josie MacDonald are all fantastic characters you empathize with. Each story maybe 4 or even 3 stars, but the series is fantastic ( I know it sounds weird, but try to understand what I mean. The end of the 40-issue run is such a bummer, and a couple of minor plot threads are left dangling, but hey, the end of this review isn’t! The development of Renee Montoya as a character, someone many of us grew up with on "Batman: The Animated Series" is also wonderfully handled. I'm now on a third read, having happily upgraded to the omnibus, and this is still one of the best books DC has ever produced. It is set in the 853rd century, purely because that century would have been the year DC would publish their 1 millionth issue.
