The upheavals of moves, the flights , the drunken bar scenes and the physical, mental , verbal abuse made this book a difficult read.

I have fortunately never suffered alcohol abuse but I'm curious about other people who have risen from the depths of despair. Coming Clean] sheds light on the reverberating effects of addiction and sobriety in this glowing memoir that unravels her experience falling in – and at times, out of – love with an alcoholic . I think there are people whose lives have been negatively impacted by the book and its subject matter, and I hope that MN will agree that these people should have a voice, as should anybody who wants to comment on a published piece of work. I would be interested to know how Mumsnet would respond to the fact that the person they protected from the consequences of her own behaviour was quite happy to act with the maturity of a primary schooler.

The repetition of the lies, the distress, the arguments, the belief that things will really change this time, the slowly dawning horror of realising that they won't, is hard to take sometimes. The ultimate Valentine's Day countdown - here are 10 romantic gestures to help sweep your partner off their feet! But what I really struggled was the way in which she claimed to be the victim of the abuse by an alcoholic and suffered such terrible things as a result of Mike’s addiction. She is totally morally bankrupt snd I hate to say it, she got what she was always going to get, I wonder if it was worth feeding her ego for. Fraser illuminates the complexities of loving an addict and why she 'didn't run a mile' when his illness became apparent .

Considering this is likely targeted at many mothers it’s important for the clarifications to be out there so that mothers will not part with money under false pretences. My saving grace was that, whilst being a very abusive binge drinker, I was never alcohol dependent and the physical recovery didn't take long. Im not sure what to make of what the power of Liz Frazer’s honesty and integrity ( not to mention her easy, natural writing style ) has moved in me. Wouldn’t a sensible person pause, assess the situation, and say to themselves “this is no place for Mike. Love Island All Stars viewers praise Sophie Piper for 'snitching' on scheming Georgia Steel during secret flirty chat with Tom Clare: 'He's gonna tell the villa!

Perhaps Ms Fraser could be gracious enough to acknowledge that she has had a get-out-of-jail-free-card handed to her by MNHQ and not be so infantile. She reveals that a final letter to the man she loved told him: 'Mike, my love, you have completely broken my life' and later reveals that enduring his addiction left her with 'severe PTSD'. From the occasional looks I take at Liz Fraser’s social it seems the chaos continues for the poor, seemingly completely isolated child. When Liz Fraser’s partner fell into a catastrophic vortex of depression and alcoholism, Liz found herself in a relentless hailstorm of lies, loneliness and fear, looking after their young child on her own, heartbroken, mentally shattered and with no idea what was happening or what to do.

I feel like she had a vision of a picture perfect life she could have with a sexy barrister and clung onto that vision despite every sign and signal telling her it wasn’t going to become reality. I look forward to the revision which is a refined version of this story plus the outcome of the future - Liz's story is quite short in comparison to the length of time many people go through the same pains - but very well described. I realize this is a true story and deals with a difficult topic, but the foul language put me off, and the author's choices were painful to read. It's a well known intervention for CPTSD so it's also a little confusing that she pronounced it as a brand new treatment.I hope that in sharing this story it might change the way addiction is talked about and understood from both sides, encourage open, trusting and supportive dialogue between addicts and those their addiction affects, and provide some solace and help for those who need it – as I did. In Venice, she was pulled out of bed at all hours, strapped to the back of s bike as her hysterical mother tide through the streets screaming out her fathers name and running in to bars looking for him. It's my daughter's fourth birthday tomorrow and I think especially as mothers, sorry dads, it's the anniversary of when we gave birth, which is an enormous thing and I had no chance to really recover from that. My thought is that, if the ultimate decision is based on a "fickle", "case by case" judgement, why have guidelines at all?
