The fifth world alone (the one with jungle and all the fruits and juice) is a freakin' masterpiece, in that regard. Unlike most Western game developers, Retro spent a considerable amount of time developing prototypes. For me jungle beat would be top 5, what a superb game that was once you’d mastered the bongo controls.

GamesRadar complimented the title for its standout levels and fan service, while criticizing it the levels for being frustrating, unclear and often misleading, and motion controls that make them "question the controls in a platformer". I’ve only played a handful of Donkey Kong games but I can definitely say that Tropical Freeze is my favorite.

When IGN interviewer Matt Casamassina visited Retro to discuss Metroid Prime: Trilogy (2009), he was required to sign a non-disclosure agreement stipulating that if he managed to learn what the new project was, he would be unable to discuss it. The game also established Donkey Kong as a bona fide platforming hero with a background story after years as a bumbling girlfriend kidnapper and part-time go-kart driver. There was just a feel to those games, the way they looked, the way they sounded, the way they played, that the Retro games never really lived up to. Donkey Kong and Dixie feel like an extremely heavy duo with a very minor help by Dixie while in DKC 2 and DKC 3 Dixie on her own was able to do crazy things like Diddy is in spite of not being able to hover.

Just by listening to the DKC soundtrack gives a way more intense and beautiful true DK experience than most gameplay experiences the older Nintendo-made DK games have to offer.

They say it's a great game for all age groups and family, with lots of fun and challenging for the kids. I would put the original DKC at 2, with Diddy Kong's Quest just behind but other than that it's hard to argue with the list.

Either my reflexes were much better when I was younger or the original seems more of a joy ride than rogue-lite, or a combination of the two. However if you say a different DK game (Not Tropical Freeze obviously) is better and have a solid reason for that, that's cool, everyone has their own opinion. They mention that the graphics are very good, it looks amazing for a 2D platformer, and has improved greatly. The player character has over 2,000 animations in single-player and 6,000 in multiplayer, far greater than Samus Aran's in the Metroid Prime games, [8] [23] and Retro drew inspiration from Jungle Beat to develop Donkey Kong's movements. E3 2010 proved to be a turning point for the development; Iwata observed that "the game rapidly bloomed once [Retro] entered the final stretch", with more ideas and elements introduced. While Mario is the undisputed man when it comes to all things Nintendo, let it never be forgotten that it was Donkey Kong who gave the plumber a leg-up in the world of video games. The Tikis' minions steal every banana from the banana hoard and load them onto large leaves pulled through the jungle and then taken onto an airship soon after. I stopped playing it on wii because you had to shake the remote to roll, it was just too cumbersome. A tower emerges from the eruption as well as the rest of the Tiki Tak Tribe from the boulders sent out from the blast.
